Our Veterans Fought for Us — Now It’s Time We Fight for Them

Too many veterans in San Diego County are sleeping on the streets they sacrificed to protect.

That’s unacceptable.

As a U.S. Navy veteran, this issue isn’t just professional—it’s personal. On Tuesday, June 24, I’m bringing forward a Board Letter that aims to expand emergency housing and support services targeted specifically for homeless veterans. It’s a step forward, and one I believe is long overdue.

San Diego is home to more than 240,000 veterans—yet far too many are struggling to secure stable housing, access mental health care, or reconnect to the support systems they need to thrive. While we’ve made meaningful progress, including a 26% drop in veteran homelessness this year, we cannot let up now.

That’s why I’m proposing a pilot program to dedicate more Regional Housing Assistance Program (RHAP) beds to veterans, along with enhanced funding for case management and rental support. This initiative is about cutting through red tape, delivering real help, and honoring the service of those who’ve worn the uniform.

When someone risks their life for this country, we owe them more than a handshake—we owe them a lifeline. That’s what this proposal delivers.

Thank you for standing with me as we continue the fight to ensure no veteran is left behind.
