June is Children's Awareness Month, and it is my honor to spotlight the remarkable Nurtured by Nature organization, which emerged from the ashes of great loss.
In 2003, Kevin and Wendy faced the devastating destruction of their home due to wildfires. However, the outpouring of support from their community during this challenging time inspired them to establish Nurtured by Nature in 2008, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, to give back.
Nurtured by Nature's program offers an extraordinary opportunity for children battling life-terminal illnesses. At their facility, these courageous individuals can interact with and care for various animals, including the beloved Asian Small-Clawed Otters, Capybaras, Two-toed Sloths, Lemurs, and many others. This experience, often a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, allows these children to find solace, happiness, and hope through physical connections with the natural world.
Nurtured by Nature serves as an official "Wish Maker" in partnership with the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Their generous contributions of nearly $300,000 to the foundation have enabled countless more children to delight in the wonders of animals and Nature. In recognition of their incredible dedication, Nurtured by Nature was honored as Make-A-Wish's Donor of the Year a couple of years ago. Through their tireless efforts, Nurtured by Nature fosters joy, well-being, and healing for children who have endured profound emotional trauma.
