Uniting Against Human Trafficking: A Night of Awareness and Action

In a powerful and emotionally charged town hall event held last night, our community came together to address one of the most pressing issues of our time: human trafficking.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the key figures who made this event possible and meaningful. District Attorney Summer Stephan, Geanie Franco, Commander of the San Diego Human Trafficking Task Force, and Keelin Washington, a courageous human trafficking survivor, shared their expertise, experiences, and insights.

District Attorney Summer Stephan, a tireless advocate for justice, has been at the forefront of combating human trafficking in our region. Her dedication to the cause is evident in her unwavering commitment to prosecuting traffickers and supporting survivors. We thank her for her leadership and continued efforts to make our community safer.

Commander Geanie Franco, leading the San Diego Human Trafficking Task Force, is a beacon of hope in our fight against trafficking. Her expertise and relentless pursuit of traffickers have made our county safer. We thank Commander Franco for her exceptional work in protecting our community.

Keelin Washington, a human trafficking survivor, brought the harsh reality of this crime into sharp focus with her poignant and impactful story. Her courage in sharing her experience sheds light on survivors' resilience and strength, reminding us why we must continue to work tirelessly to eradicate this injustice.

Our commitment to combating human trafficking doesn't end with this town hall event. In recognition that education is a vital tool in the prevention of human trafficking, we have recently introduced legislation to educate our students about the signs to look for when approached by potential traffickers. This legislation is a crucial step forward, as it equips parents of young children with the knowledge needed to protect themselves and their peers.

By arming our students with information about the tactics used by traffickers, we empower them to make informed decisions and to recognize when they or their peers may be in danger.

I want to encourage all members of our community to join us in this critical endeavor. Share the knowledge you gain with your friends and family. Awareness and collective action are essential in the fight against human trafficking. Together, we can make a meaningful impact in the battle against this grave injustice.

The town hall event held last night was pivotal in our ongoing fight against human trafficking. We thank District Attorney Summer Stephan, Commander Geanie Franco, and Keelin Washington for their invaluable contributions, and we look forward to a future where our community is safer, better educated, and united in our determination to eradicate this heinous crime.
