Today marks a momentous occasion as we gather to celebrate the remarkable achievements of the Cal State University San Marcos (CSUSM) Women's Basketball Team. As Supervisor of San Diego County, I am immensely proud to honor these exceptional athletes for their historic season.
This year, the Cougars blazed a trail of success, securing their first-ever NCAA Division II Final Four appearance. With an impressive record of 27 wins, they demonstrated resilience, skill, and unwavering determination on the court. Notably, they clinched their inaugural NCAA Division II West Regional Championship, a testament to their outstanding performance throughout the season.
Coach Jimenez's prowess on the sidelines earned her the prestigious title of CCAA Coach of the Year for the fourth time in her illustrious career and her third time as CSUSM's head coach. Furthermore, she reached a remarkable milestone of 250 career wins in January, underscoring her exceptional leadership and dedication to the sport.
I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the players and coaching staff and the administrators, parents, and families who have supported the CSUSM Women's Basketball Team every step of the way. Your unwavering commitment to excellence, sportsmanship, academics, and community spirit has undoubtedly impacted North County San Diego.
Therefore, on this 30th day of April 2024, I am honored to declare today as "CSUSM Women's Basketball Team Day" throughout San Diego County. Let us proudly congratulate the CSUSM Women's Basketball Team on their historic achievement and celebrate their extraordinary journey to the Final Four. May their success inspire future generations of athletes and serve as a testament to the power of teamwork, dedication, and perseverance.
