I’m proud to share some great news from today’s Board of Supervisors meeting: We delivered two critical wins for San Diego County—starting with a major breakthrough in our fight to end veteran homelessness.
San Diego is home to more than 240,000 veterans—men and women who served our nation with honor. Yet far too many of these heroes find themselves without a home, struggling with mental health challenges and pushed out of an increasingly unaffordable housing market.
That’s unacceptable. And today, we took action.
This isn’t another study or feel-good gesture. This is a concrete, results-driven plan to ensure no veteran is left behind. Here’s what’s in the initiative we passed:
-
✅ A Landlord Assurance Fund – to incentivize property owners to rent to veterans by reducing their financial risk.
-
✅ A Veteran-Specific “By-Name” List – to ensure we know who needs help, track their progress, and connect each individual to the right services.
-
✅ A Landlord Recruitment Campaign – to expand participation in the HUD-VASH housing voucher program, which pairs housing support with case management.
-
✅ Regional Coordination Across Agencies – to close the gaps between cities, service providers, and the VA so veterans can get housed faster.
We owe our veterans more than a salute—we owe them solutions. Today, we delivered. And we’re not stopping here.
