This past Friday, I welcomed Senator JD Vance to the southern border, where I showed him firsthand the severe impact of our broken immigration system.
I appreciate the Senator’s commitment to understanding how current open border policies affect our region.
Over the past year, more than 155,000 migrants have been street-released in San Diego County. Millions of local taxpayer dollars have been diverted to cover the costs associated with the mass immigration of asylum seeking migrants—money that could have been better spent on our residents and vital services. Our border facilities are beyond capacity, putting an immense strain on our resources.
The issue at hand is not partisan—this is an American issue. The consequences of an unsecured border extend beyond San Diego and affect cities across the country. Whether Republican or Democrat, I invite any leader to see the reality of these policies and the heavy burden they have placed on our communities.
I will continue to fight for a secure border and a fair system that upholds the rule of law, ensuring that those who follow the legal process are not pushed aside by those who jump ahead.
Thank you for your continued support in addressing this critical issue.
