Honoring an Extraordinary Community Leader: Zucette Lumabas

Yesterday, I had the great privilege of recognizing Zucette Lumabas for her outstanding contributions to the Oceanside community and beyond. Joined by her son Neil, Zucette embodies the true spirit of service, generosity, and leadership.

During National Women’s History Month, it is especially important to celebrate women like Zucette, who dedicate their time and energy to making a lasting impact. Her commitment to helping others is nothing short of inspiring.

Zucette has served in leadership roles that have directly benefited many in our community. As the past president and now vice president of the Oceanside Sea Lions Club, she has helped raise funds for scholarship programs, Rady’s Children’s Hospital, the Blind Stokers Club, and Guide Dogs for the Blind. In addition to her work locally, she has also made a difference internationally. As a trustee of the Filipino American Cultural Organization, she led efforts to raise funds to build a multipurpose center in the Philippines following one of the most destructive typhoons to ever hit the region. In her role as Hospitality Chair, she has provided critical support to community members facing hardships due to natural disasters and personal loss.

Her community support extends even further through her work with the Oceanside Pacific Foundation, where she helps provide food for those in need in partnership with Brother Benno’s. She also takes time to organize efforts to welcome returning military personnel with special gift bags.

Zucette’s dedication has not gone unnoticed. She has received numerous awards, including the Oceanside Police Department’s Andrea Sanders Community Friendship Award, the Oceanside Fire Department’s Friend of the Year Award, the Kiwanis Humanitarian of the Year Award, and the Sea Lions Club Certificate of Excellence. She has also been recognized as the Oceanside Chamber Member of the Month, among many other honors.

In recognition of her remarkable service, the San Diego County Board of Supervisors has officially declared March 11, 2025, as “ZUCETTE LUMABAS DAY” throughout San Diego County.

Zucette’s compassion, leadership, and dedication to service make her a true asset to our community. It was an honor to recognize her, and I look forward to seeing the continued impact of her work.
