Have you ever wondered where SANDAG is putting the money they claim will fix our roads? At their last meeting, SANDAG approved spending nearly six million dollars on just two miles of bike lanes in the City of San Diego.
That's three million dollars per mile—for bike lanes. They've promised to fix the roads, but here's another example of SANDAG diverting your money toward projects that don't deliver on those promises.
A few weeks ago, News 8 did a story about bike lanes not being used in Kearny Mesa. I encourage you to check it out.
Despite their unmet promises to alleviate traffic congestion, SANDAG is still pushing ahead with its $160 billion transportation plan. Now, with the mileage tax no longer an option, they're exploring new ways to fund it.
As San Diegans, we already face some of the highest driving costs in the country—sky-high gas prices driven by steep gas taxes, the nation's highest vehicle registration fees, and we are paying a local sales tax until 2048. This will only place more financial strain on all of us who rely on driving for work, school, and daily errands.
Enough is enough. It's time to hold SANDAG accountable and ensure they prioritize the needs of everyday San Diegans over costly projects that benefit few.
