Stop the Sexually Violent Predator Placement in Borrego Springs

Gary Snavely was convicted in 1987 of sexually molesting two young girls. He was convicted again in 1996 for failing to register as a sex offender. The state designated him a Sexually Violent Predator and civilly committed him to Coalinga State Hospital. He has been granted conditional release twice before, in 2007 and 2014. Both times, his release was revoked for violations.

The proposed address is the same property previously used to house another SVP, Joseph Martinez. Borrego Springs is a small, rural community. It is not an appropriate placement site for repeat violent sexual offenders, and it should not be treated as one.

We urge the San Diego Superior Court to deny this placement and direct the State to find an alternative that does not jeopardize the safety of our families and neighborhoods.

  • Just the evidence that he has violated the condition of his release twice before, is enough to deny a placement anywhere else. He is obviously not suited for life outside of supervised hospital. These "conditional " releases are not supervised and the offender is left to his own “sick” devices. I adamantly oppose this placement anywhere in the back county, or anywhere else.   • If our Justice system truly delivered justice for We The People this man would be jailed for life or have a millstone put around his neck and tossed into deep water.

  • Elected officials, please recall recent history and the violence, and even death, to innocent CHILDREN that these sexual predators have caused. The two most prevalent victims were Chelsea King and Amber Dubois. Ms. King was hunted down and murdered one mile from my home. Public safety should be your top priority for our community, state, and nation. Please do the county right and keep these murderers out of our area.
